After investing time and money in the best hair transplant, you want the best results possible from your hair restoration. Here are a few tips to follow to help you maximize your results.

1. Hold Off on Washing Your Hair

Your aftercare papers will include instructions about not washing your hair for a minimum of 72 hours; you need to follow these instructions.

On day 3 after the surgery, you will return to our clinic where we will wash your grafts and teach you how to best care for them going forward. You’ll want to use this gentle washing technique for a few days to avoid disturbing the transplanted hair follicles.

2. Plan on Taking a Few Days Off

While a hair transplant doesn’t have a super lengthy healing period, it is best to plan on a couple of days of downtime for your hair restoration procedure.

You’ll want to reduce your stress, avoid smoking and alcoholic beverages, drink plenty of water, and postpone heavy exercise to encourage the healing process.

3. Keep Cool

You want to avoid sweating at all costs after your hair transplant. Keep your home cool, and avoid going outside if it’s hot. Don’t engage in strenuous exercise or spend time in a sauna, steam room, or hot tub.

4. Maintain a Clean Scalp

Your scalp is full of tiny pinholes from your hair transplant; it’s important to prevent bacteria from entering these holes to minimize your risk of infection.

Avoid touching your scalp as much as possible, as your hands can transmit germs to your head. Don’t wear hats or any other items that touch your head.

When you’re allowed to, wash your head using baby shampoo and a gentle cleansing method.

5. Remember to Take Care of Your Head

It’s common to experience a little swelling and discomfort at the site of your hair transplant. Hold an icepack on your procedure site to reduce swelling and pain.

See that you avoid sleeping on your back or stomach, as these positions can irritate your transplant site. If possible, sleep in a recliner with your head elevated to decrease any swelling you’re experiencing.

Anti-inflammatory medication may also be used to help with managing your pain.
