What’s Scalp Micropigmentation?
February 21,2023

If you’ve been struggling to cover thinning hair or bald spots, you’re not alone. Whether it’s caused by genetics, stress, or alopecia, approximately 70% of men will experience some form of hair loss by the time they reach 50.

Bald spots can appear in a pattern, such as the case in male pattern baldness or androgenic alopecia. They can also develop randomly as you lose more hair, either due to aging or stress-induced hair loss.

Even if they’re minor, bald spots can make you feel self-conscious and embarrassed about your appearance. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to regrow hair on a bald spot. In this article, we’ll review some methods below, so you can decide which is right for you.

Essential Oils

Some oils are heralded as natural hair growth remedies thanks to their scalp-nourishing nutrients. For example, rosemary oil can help improve circulation; better circulation means greater oxygen and nutrients reaching the cells on your scalp. As a result, you may be able to encourage hair growth by rubbing some of this oil on your bald spots each day.

Peppermint oil is another hair loss home remedy. Thanks to its main element, menthol, this oil can increase blood flow and stimulate hair-growth cells in bald areas.

Topical and Oral Medication

One of the most popular topical treatments for hair loss is minoxidil, or Rogaine. It’s the leading hair-loss medication for men and women, and it has been approved by the FDA.

Rogaine has been proven to regrow hair in some cases, making it unique from other popular medications like finasteride (Propecia), which only help slow hair loss.

The doctors and various experts here at Eternal can discuss different medication options with you, and prescribe something based on your preferences and any underlying medical conditions. There are also non-prescription options available, like collagen and vitamins supplements.

However, you should still speak to your doctor before taking any new medications or supplements, especially if you already take any other type of prescription medications.

Hair Restoration Procedures

There are surgical and non-surgical options out there that can help restore your hair and confidence. At Eternal Hair and Esthetics, we specialize in a variety of procedures that can help you regrow hair and cover bald spots.

These are three of our most widely used treatment options:

  • Micropigmentation. For men who sport close-shaven styles, micropigmentation can fill in any bald spots by depositing long-lasting pigmentation through micro-needles directly onto the scalp.
  • Red light therapy. Also known as low-light, PBM, or soft laser therapy, this treatment involves using specific wavelengths of a laser to target bald spots and stimulate hair growth.
  • Exosome therapy. One of the most cutting-edge treatments for male hair loss is exosome therapy. This treatment uses cellular messengers called exosomes to stimulate hair-producing cells. This can reawaken growth on dormant bald spots, and make thinning hair fuller.

Surgical Options

There are surgical procedures for men who have lost a lot of hair, or who don’t see any results with non-surgical treatments. The most popular is, of course, a hair transplant. Hair transplants work by transferring healthy hair follicles from one part of the scalp (usually the sides or back) and transferring them to bald areas.

You should always discuss your condition with a doctor before settling on a hair transplant, especially if you are interested in trying less invasive forms of treatment first.
